I travel a lot and check SERPs from different countries for the same set of queries, mostly for a DIY and home repair site. One thing that’s consistent everywhere: for “how to fix X” queries, there’s now a video block above or right after the first organic result, and it’s almost always YouTube.

From GSC, CTR on our how-to pages dropped from about 6% to 3.5% over a year, positions roughly the same.

I’ve never made videos. Thinking of starting with the 20 most important guides, simple phone footage, short.

    Questions:
    – if you embedded your own videos on the guide, did the page itself get a video result, or just the YouTube video rank?
    – did you get traffic back through the video, or just views that never visited the site?

Trying to work out if this is an SEO play or a separate channel I’d need to treat on its own terms.
