Wrote a “remote work statistics” page for a client 14 months ago. It now has 61 referring domains, almost all earned without outreach. Writers searching for a stat find it, then cite it.
What I think worked:
– Every stat had a source and a date, clearly shown
– Updated quarterly with a “last updated” line at the top
– Short, quotable sentences for each stat, not buried in paragraphs
– A few original numbers from the client’s own user data, which is what people cited most
What I’d do differently:
– Should have started with more original data. Stats copied from elsewhere get cited, but people often link to the original source instead
– Too long now at 120 stats, bounce rate is high
– Should have made the page easier to link to specific sections
For anyone else who has built stats pages: did they keep earning links long term, or did they fade once competitors made their own versions? Ours has more competition now and I’m wondering how to stay ahead.
