Small software company, 12 people. Our brand name is also a common word, so Google often mixes us up with other things. Branded searches show a mix of us, a band, and a dictionary definition.
Six weeks ago I added proper Organization markup on the homepage: legal name, logo, founding date, sameAs to our LinkedIn, Crunchbase-type profiles, GitHub and Wikidata entry (which I created, carefully and within their rules).
So far:
– site name in results now shows correctly (was showing the domain before)
– logo appears in some results
– still no entity box on the right for brand searches
For those who’ve done entity work for a small brand, what finally made Google treat you as a distinct thing? More third-party mentions? A Wikipedia article? Time? Trying to figure out if the markup matters or if it’s all about what others say about you.
