On desktop our site has a big mega menu with around 140 links to categories and subcategories. On mobile the theme swaps it for a simplified menu with 12 links, and the rest just aren’t in the HTML at all on mobile.

Since Google crawls mobile, I’m fairly sure those 128 subcategory pages are only linked from the category pages now, not sitewide. A few of them rank noticeably worse than their siblings.

Before I ask the dev team to rebuild the mobile nav, I want to know if anyone has seen real movement from this. Options:
    – same full menu in mobile HTML, collapsed
    – keep mobile menu short but add subcategory links in the footer
    – better linking from category pages only

Did anyone measure before and after on something like this? Curious whether sitewide links still carry weight or if it barely matters now.
