Frontend dev on an ecommerce rebuild. Design wants infinite scroll on category pages, 24 products on load and more as you scroll. SEO person wants every product reachable by links.
What I’m planning:
– real paginated URLs behind it (?page=2, ?page=3) that render server side
– infinite scroll loads those pages and updates the URL with history.pushState
– a plain “load more” link as a fallback that goes to the next page URL
– each page self-canonical
Categories range from 40 to 3,000 products.
For people who’ve shipped this: did Google crawl deep pages properly? Any gotchas with the pushState approach? And for the 3,000 product categories, would you still rely on pagination or add subcategory filters as indexable pages to get product links shallower?
