Running SEO for a small online shop selling climbing gear. Our blog gets links fine, and the homepage gets brand links, but category pages like “climbing shoes” or “chalk bags” have almost nothing pointing at them. Those are the pages that actually need to rank.
Things I’ve tried:
– Asking bloggers who review gear to link to the category instead of a product (some did, most link to the specific product)
– Buying guides on the blog that link to categories internally
– Supplier listings, but those point to the homepage
What I’m thinking about next is making the category pages themselves more useful, like a size comparison table or a fit guide at the top, so there’s a reason to link there.
Has anyone got real links directly to ecommerce category pages without paying for them? Or is the realistic approach to build to the blog and push authority down through internal links?
