Budget for next quarter is fixed and I have two routes for a client in the veterinary software space.
Route A: 6-8 links from small but very relevant sites. Vet clinic blogs, a couple of animal health associations, a vet student resource site. Low authority metrics, low traffic, but readers are exactly the audience.
Route B: 2 links from big general news and business sites. High metrics, lots of traffic, but the article would be a general piece on small business software with us mentioned in passing.
Past experience says route A moves rankings more slowly but more steadily, while route B gives a bump on broader terms. But I’ve never tested it cleanly.
Which way would you go and why? And does anyone have a real example where niche relevance clearly beat raw authority, or the other way round?
