We’re a mid-size brand in the outdoor gear space and get mentioned quite a bit in reviews, roundups and local news, but most of it has no link. Pulled a list of about 150 unlinked mentions from the last 12 months.

Started emailing them last week with a short friendly note asking if they’d mind linking the name to our site. So far 4 links out of around 30 emails. That feels low for people who already like us enough to mention us.

What’s a normal hit rate on this? And does anyone do anything smarter than just asking?

4 out of 30 is actually not bad for cold asks. I usually see 10-20% depending on the site type. Bloggers and small review sites convert way better than news sites, news sites almost never edit old articles.

Thing that helped me: offer something that makes the edit worth it for them. A better product image, an updated spec, a correction if they got a price or detail wrong. ‘Link us please’ is a favour, ‘here’s a fix for your article’ is useful.
