Inherited a pest control site where about 35 of 140 referring domains use “pest control [city]” pointing at the homepage. The main term has been sliding for a year.
Instead of disavowing, I asked the real, active blogs to change the anchor to the brand. 14 agreed. Five weeks later the main term has moved from 14 to 11, but we also did on-page work, so who knows.
Has anyone done anchor swaps at scale and seen a clear result? Or is that overthinking it?
