Most people give up on GA4 after looking at the standard reports. The Explore section is where it becomes useful for a SaaS funnel, and it is included in the free version.
How I use it:
– Funnel exploration from landing page to signup to activation event. Open funnel mode shows where people enter mid-way.
– Path exploration backwards from the signup event to see which pages people read before converting. Pricing and docs pages show up a lot.
– Segment overlap to compare organic versus paid users who reach activation.
– Save explorations and share them with the team, otherwise everyone rebuilds the same thing.
Downside: data retention for explorations defaults to 2 months. Change it to 14 months in the property settings on day one, or your year-over-year analysis will be empty. Sampling also kicks in on bigger date ranges.
