I track about 400 commercial queries for a home appliance review site. Pulled the SERPs last week and counted:
– 261 queries have at least one Reddit thread in the top 5
– 118 have a Reddit or Quora result at position 1 or 2
– our average position on those dropped from 3.1 to 5.6 over 12 months
What bugs me is some of those threads are 4 years old with 6 replies and one of them recommends a product that doesn’t exist anymore.
I’m not looking to spam threads, that’s not the fix. What I’m trying to work out is whether there’s anything on our side that competes, or whether this is just the layout now and we should target queries where forums don’t show.
Has anyone found query types where the forum results reliably don’t appear? Or managed to climb back above them with a specific kind of page?
