Bit annoyed about this one. Wrote a 1,800 word guest post for a marketing blog, all agreed in advance, one contextual link to a client’s guide. Post went live, link was there, I logged it and moved on.
Checked my tracker 6 weeks later and the link is gone. The article is still up, my byline is still there, they just edited out the one sentence with the link. No email, nothing.
I didn’t pay for it, it was a genuine contribution, so I don’t feel I have much leverage. Emailed the editor and got a vague reply about “updating older posts for our new content guidelines”.
How do you handle this? Do you:
– let it go and move on
– ask them to remove the whole post with your name on it
– agree something in writing up front about links staying
I know it happens but it’s the second time this year. Starting to wonder if I should be checking live links monthly rather than quarterly.
