I work on sites for Spain and Mexico and wanted to compare notes with anyone doing link building outside English.

    Things I’ve found different:
    – Far fewer sites, so you run out of targets fast. In some niches there are maybe 50 relevant blogs total
    – Many more sites expect payment, even small personal blogs
    – Outreach in a very formal tone gets ignored in Mexico, a friendlier style works better. Spain seems more mixed
    – Local media is easier to reach than in the US or UK, journalists actually reply
    – Spain and LATAM sites are often treated as one market by sellers, which is useless if you only care about one country

What I haven’t worked out is whether links from Latin American sites help a site targeting Spain, or the other way round. Same language, different countries.

Anyone else working in Spanish, Portuguese, or another non-English market? What surprised you?
