My newsletter is small, a couple of thousand readers, and Mailchimp’s free plan has been enough to send a weekly roundup of new recipes. Setup is easy and the forms work on WordPress.

    Tips:
    – Use the RSS to email campaign. New posts go out automatically every week and I only write the intro.
    – Put a simple signup form inside recipe posts, not only in the sidebar. My signups more than doubled after that.
    – Tag subscribers by what form they joined from, so you know if people came for baking or dinners.
    – Clean inactive subscribers every few months to keep open rates and deliverability healthy.

Downside: the free plan has been cut back a lot over the years, with lower contact and send limits and fewer automations. Once you grow, the pricing jumps fast and it is worth comparing alternatives.
