Site is around 400 posts, mostly informational, in the home improvement space. Internal linking has been done pretty randomly over the years depending on which writer did the post.
I’m trying to decide between one of the auto internal linking plugins (the ones that insert links based on keywords you set) or just biting the bullet and doing it by hand with a spreadsheet.
The plugins feel risky to me, like I’ll end up with 15 identical exact match anchors pointing at one page. But doing 400 posts manually is a lot of hours. What are you guys doing?
I tested an auto-insert plugin on a site about this size a couple years back. It did exactly what you’re scared of. Same anchor over and over, links in weird spots like the first sentence of an intro. Removed it after 2 months, no ranking change either way tbh.
