I’ve been doing both for a client site (SaaS, pretty competitive). After the last core update the pages with niche edits pointing at them held position better than the ones supported mostly by guest posts.
Small sample size, maybe 15 pages total, so could be coincidence. Anyone else noticed something similar or the opposite?
Makes sense to me. A niche edit sits on a page that is already old, indexed and has its own links. A new guest post starts from zero and a lot of them never get any internal links on the host site. I’ve seen the same thing, but only when the edit is on a page that’s actually relevant.
Seen the same pattern on two ecommerce sites, but I’d be careful calling it niche edits vs guest posts. What held up for us was links on pages that already had their own traffic, and that happened to be mostly niche edits. The few guest posts that landed on sites with real readers held up just as well.
@marta_links that’s a fair point, I didn’t split it by whether the linking page gets traffic. Going to pull that from Ahrefs for the 15 pages this week and see if it explains it better than the link type.
